My STEAM Day Presentation

Image
This picture shows pieces of cardboard that will be used to make a practice piece of a gusset demonstration that will be used in STEAM Day at the Middle School to interest students into joining STEAM. This after picture shows a complete demonstration of what we plan to make with aluminum. There will be two corner pieces, one will be left complete alone to show how weak it is while another one will be reinforced with a gusset to show how strong it can be. The picture above shows a hollow beam of aluminum that will be cut up to use it as the corners that will be used in the demonstration. Four pieces of aluminum will be cut to from the two different corners that will be used for the demonstration. The picture shows four different beams, all of them will be used to make two corners however only one corner will have the gusset attached on. This is to demonstrate the difference between the both and how strong it can be with just a simple triangle. Thi...

How I Took Apart and Rebuilt a Small Engine

Image
The picture above shows what my next project will be, disassembling and reassembling an engine. Since I wanted to major in mechanics and be a mechanical engineer, my teacher decided to give me this project. This picture shows the engine with a part taken off since it needed to be reattached to the engine since it came off when we tried to run the engine to see if it functioned in order from me to work on it. This picture shows the engine outside on the ground to see if it would work and to our surprise it worked without any problems which meant that I was going to take the engine apart and put it back together. The picture above shows the first step of taking the engine apart. The engine was placed on an aluminum mat in order to keep all the screws together in order to successfully put the engine back together when i’m done. This picture shows the engine with the top removed because from here we can remove the piston and the valves. This step wil...

How I Reinforced a Weak Frame (Part 2 of 2)

Image
This picture is quite an important one because it will be introducing a new method on how we can adjust the gussets in order for them to be able to be successfully attached to the frame. There is a bolt on the frame that won't let us attach the gusset without it being adjusted. So we have to make a hole by where the bolt is in order to attach it. The picture just displays how the drill saw works and what it basically is, a mixture of a saw and a drill bit. This picture shows the gusset I made and with the adjustment of the drill saw. The hole was opened to make the gusset look more clean and add a bit more of aesthetics to the gusset. This adjustment will finally let us attach the gusset to the frame without the annoying bolt in the way. The picture above shows the gusset being held against frame with a few c-clamps. The c amps are used to hold the gusset in place when it is lined up with the edge of the bars. While being held in place I will drill in the holes for t...

How I Reinforced a Weak Frame (Part 1 of 2)

Image
The picture above is a list of possible projects that can be made in the workshop during the year. We have just split off into individual projects based on the jobs we are aiming for during adulthood. Mr. Grosinger will choose our projects based on his experience on projects.      This picture displays an excel sheet from my Green Technology class and the assignments that he had assigned for the class that he think will be of great assistance in our future. His choices will be based on our long term goals, which in my case was a mechanical engineer or an architect.      This picture contains what is called metal shears which is used to cut a small amount of metal into desired pieces or to make sharp corners into radius corners for safety reasons. I also used a tri-square which is is used as a ruler and contains a perfect 90 degree angle for a straight line.      This picture is when my project really star...
